Success Rates for 2009
Success Rates for 2009

We are delighted to report that we have continued to build on our successes in preceding years since the start of the clinic in 2002. In 2009 we have achieved pregnancies for couples locally, the Caribbean region and international couples from USA, UK, Canada and other European countries.

We believe both our high clinical and laboratory standards as well as the relaxing atmosphere of this beautiful island contribute to our success rates – of which we are very proud.

Male factor is very prevalent in the Caribbean and this is reflected in that approx 80% of cycles require ICSI. For this reason we show combined IVF and ICSI success rates. However, at Barbados Fertility Centre we tailor treatment according to the needs of the patients.

Our flexible embryo culture system permits blastocyst culture. This is particularly beneficial for couples with 5 or more good quality embryos on day 3, when the extension of the culture to day 5 will significant improve embryos selection and ultimately success rates are 10-20% higher across depending on the age of the female. For women under 35 years old a 71% clinical pregnancy rate was achieved in 2009 with Blastocyst culture.

Maternal age has a significant impact on success rates. This relates to egg and subsequent embryo quality. The statistics given are for all women treated at these ages. If we focus on those within an age bracket who are producing good quality embryos, success rates are higher. In addition in cases where good numbers of embryos are available this too has a positive impact on chance of pregnancy. This is most evident in the over 40’s. So for example our average success rate for the 41+ group is 14%, but in cases where there were 4 embryos available for transfer this was far better at 25%.

Our IVF Baby Made In Paradise!
Sept 2005, Lisa read about a couple whose story featured in The Sun newspaper. The article followed a couple as they underwent treatment at Barbados Fertility Centre. Lisa contacted Barbados Fertility and "in that moment my hope returned", Lisa said.

Ground Breaking Technique
Many Unit`s are using the same old poorly performing embryo freezing methods - with an average of only 50% of embryos surviving the freeze / thaw process.

Just one of the many patient's we have helped share's her story....
As a Unit, we are delighted by our patient's stories and photo's: a couple's first Christmas as a family. We encourage our patients to share news of their family - this brings happiness to staff & hope to our patients. The photographs in our family album make our statistics a reality.
